Medhotels VAT case to rock DIY sector
The Thomas Cook-owned bed bank is fighting what sources have told TTG is an £11 million claim for VAT payable under the Tour Operators’ Margin Scheme (Toms).
The VAT Tribunal has confirmed an appeal, brought against Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, is due to be heard in London on November 23 and set to last four days.
The case, lodged in early 2008, is believed to date back to before Thomas Cook bought Medhotels, which was originally set up by Youtravel.com founder John Kent and was sold to lastminute.com for £16 million in 2003.
